Ametrine
Raw ametrine jewelry: one stone that grew as two, purple amethyst at one end and golden citrine at the other, with a soft line where the colors meet. The rough crystal is kept intact so the split reads clearly, in cube-shaped studs, a statement ring and paperclip-chain necklaces in gold-filled and sterling silver.

Stones, metals, delivery windows, sizing and daily wear, gathered in one place.
Is ametrine a natural stone?
Yes. Natural ametrine is a single quartz crystal with a purple amethyst zone and a golden citrine zone, mined almost entirely in Bolivia. Our rough is left uncut so the two-tone split stays visible.
Will my ametrine show both colors clearly?
Every piece shows both, but the proportion of purple to gold varies because each crystal is hand-picked. The statement ring and larger pendants carry the split most visibly; the small cube studs show it up close.
A closer look at Ametrine
Natural ametrine forms when a single quartz crystal takes on two color zones during growth, which is why every piece here looks a little different from the next. We work with rough material rather than faceted stones, setting each one in 24k gold over electroformed copper and hanging it on 14k gold-filled (1/20) chain with a 24k dip. Because the stones are hand-picked, the balance of purple to gold shifts from piece to piece. If you want the two-tone effect obvious from across a room, the statement ring and the larger pendants carry it best. If you would rather it be a detail someone notices up close, the small cube studs are the quieter choice. Ametrine suits anyone who likes amethyst and citrine equally and would rather not decide.
What does ametrine mean?
Ametrine has little old lore because the Bolivian source was legend more than trade until the 1970s, and modern crystal practice has given it a clear job: the balance stone. It carries amethyst's reputation for calm and citrine's for confidence in one crystal, so practitioners work with it for inner conflict, decisions and the feeling of being pulled two ways, bridging the crown and solar plexus chakras. Gemini and Libra, the two signs most associated with weighing both sides, are its traditional pairing.
How do people work with ametrine?
Practitioners charge ametrine in gentle morning light or moonlight, since one end of the crystal is said to answer to the sun and the other to the moon, and hold it during meditation on a decision, one color under each thumb. For a set piece, we suggest moonlight, sound or a soft dry cloth for cleansing and charging. Water, salt and soil are hard on the setting and the plating, and the stone does not need them.
How has ametrine been used through history?
Legend has it that ametrine reached Europe in the 1600s as a conquistador's gift to his queen, from the Bolivian mine where almost all of it is still found. It only became commercially available in the 1970s, which makes it one of the newer stones in the jewelry trade despite the old legend.
Where does ametrine come from?
Nearly all of it comes from the Anahi mine in eastern Bolivia. Our rough keeps the split intact so the line where purple meets gold reads clearly, and because every crystal is hand-picked the balance between the two shifts from piece to piece. Faceters want clean, even ametrine; we want the opposite. The pieces here are picked from the crystals a cutter passes over, the banded, the frosted and the oddly pointed, plus vintage parcels from old collections, so nothing is mined to order for us.
Is raw ametrine good for everyday wear?
Quartz is hard enough for everyday wear. Keep it dry, clean with a soft cloth, and store out of long direct sun to protect both color zones.
